Arming tight, looping rolls and a riot’s worth of relentless basslines, Crivellator deploys a no-nonsense noise-rave targeted weapon of raw breaks. In this somewhat headroom opposed spastic break-fest, you forfeit some level of control over the listening experience. Even with the omnipresent feedbacking leads and pressed basslines offering an ounce of oversight, this is military-grade spastic. Both INTERMISSIONs are filled with an overwhelming mass of beat programming with the first tantalizing sharp snare work kept in line with an overly classic DnB bassline and the second swelling with an almost dystopian like club vibe of feedbacked FX. Affirming any hope of reprise, Defrag__problem peaks with one rave-heavy, sub melting hell-of-a-track. Novel beat work is easily an understatement, and yet even despite the thoroughly co-opted and brutally repurposed classic genre tropes, it is far from an overstatement.
